Are there portable DVD players that can play full-screen movies?
I have seen portable DVD players that are widescreen, but i wanted to get one to play full-screen DVDs. There are some that say something about being able to play widescreen at a 16:9 ratio while they can play full-screen with a 4:3 ratio. what does that mean?

- Yes, a Yahoo search pulled up one DVD player that changes from widescreen to full screen, although I'm sure there are many others. Many that are widescreen can also adapt to play full screen discs. http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DVD-LV75-Portable-DVD-Player/dp/B00004SD9O I don't understand why people would want to watch films with the left and right sides of the screen cut off, which is what the misnomer "full screen" actually means. Movie theater screens are longer, more rectangular, than television screens. The film stock used for each reflects this aspect ratio, with the former using many different "widescreen" (often 16:9, which is the displayed width divided by displayed height) sizes and the latter the "full screen" (4:3) format. To fit the wider film formatting to the television size, companies either add black bars to the top and bottom (letterboxing), or cut off the left and right sides, or compact the screen to fit. High Definition TVs and many European TVs also use the widescreen format. Wikipedia has a good page, linked below, on the subject of image aspect ratios.
